Background: I've been running barefoot for 3 months. Started off with the Couch to 5K but am now just running while it feels good and walking when I'm tired--it's working great for me. I carry my Soft Stars with me when I go but for the first time last night I did my whole run/walk of 1.8 miles barefoot the whole way--I was happy.

Currently only running on sidewalks or asphalt. Hope to move to trails at some point--am doing some looking around online to find some that are dirt, not gravel!

In the last month I've noticed a sound like Rice Crispies in my right knee only when I climb stairs. It doesn't hurt at all--ever. I've started doing some quad exercises, the simplest is to make my body a chair and keep that pose as long as I can. The thinking being that maybe my inner quad muscle, can't think of the name, needs to be strengthened. Reading Michael and Jessica's book that I just received Saturday--yay!- I'm now using my foam roller several times a day too (having been told years ago by a PT that my IT band was tight tight tight).

Thoughts about what might be causing my knee to do this? Should I stop running completely? I've not run for 1 1/2 weeks (a couple weeks ago) and it was still doing it. I kind of hate to go see someone about it because I know what they'll say, "No more running barefoot!!!"

    Msconana,
I glanced at your post a week or so ago, but it has kept coming to mind especially since my knees started making sounds too. It happens only when I am going up a very steep hill and it doesn't hurt either. It worries me because I had to stop running after college because of knee pain and haven't been able to run since. I am just now tentatively trying it again and so far am getting away with it. Let me know if you come across an answer and I will do like-wise for you.

    God Bless,
    Jim
