Went out on a barefoot run this a.m. that I've done several times before, but this time I had to cut it short b/c I developed large blisters on both feet. I'm still a "tenderfoot", just getting into barefooting, but haven't experienced this on previous runs. What's the best way to treat these so I can get walking normally again asap?

I remember reading someone reporting that they tried two approaches (draining and not) and both seemed to take the same amount of time to heal.
Personally, I'd drain and leave the skin on to help prevent dirt/nastiness from getting into the wound. Go barefoot as much as possible to keep your feet dry (damp moist places like shoes don't mix well with sores/blisters).
I've stopped well short of blisters in my very limited barefoot running but that's the approach I'll take if and when I get them.
I would be interested to read others approach too.

I seem to have developed a blister in the middle of my left foot from running on hard-pack dirt when it was hot. I stopped, but not soon enough. I gave it 3 days and it appeared to heal, then I resumed running every 3 days (2 days off) and the blister seems to reappear, even running on "easier" surfaces such as concrete sidewalks.
I figure either the blister never completely healed and I need to rest the skin, or something in my form is causing it each time.
I am right handed/legged and the legs definitely feel different. The right feels "stiff" and the left feels "loose", don't know if this might factor into it.
My plan is to run with huaraches for shorter distances so I don't go crazy and pay attention to form to allow the skin to rest. Any advice from the authors or member would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Aubrey

Went for the run wearing the huaraches, about 15 minutes of running, ~1mi, and felt the blister. When I looked at the foot I saw the same white patch. Should I avoid running altogether for a week to let this heal or is this normal development and I should keep running?
Thanks,
Aubrey

I am new to this barefoot running, and I just got my Five Fingers in today. Went for a 1.5 mile run, and have so many blisters that I can barely walk. But, if I remember correctly from my combat boots in basic training, just keep on keeping on and the calluses will form.

Hi Torquewrench, I did the same thing on a very hot pavement and got a blister on my left foot, lol. However, I didn't do anything to it and honestly didn't bother me. I had it for like two weeks and I ran on it without a problem. I think is best to leave it alone. if it hurst it might be infected so just open it, wash it, and disensfect it.

also, I don't recomend vibram five fingers or anything. just plain barefoot.
