It's been a little over a month now since since I started barefoot running. Sure, I'm only running 10 miles a week (vs 30) so far, but I am so glad to have made the change...

Most people that I have read about who start running bf do it because of some sort of injury or something. For me that wasn't the case. I had no problems running in shoes. The only running injury I've ever had was over 20 years ago when I tore my Medial Miniscus doing intervals. Since then, I have never missed one day of running due to injuries...

So then, why did I start running bf? Reading "Born To Run" I believe, had a huge impact on my decision to give it a go. Running bf just "seemed right." And now, just a little over a month of actually running with my new "own" shoes, can now say it just "feels right."

The other day, I was watering my palm trees, when friend stopped over and asked me, "how on earth can you walk barefoot on all those sharp rocks?"

(Understand-many of of us who live in Phoenix don't have grass, but crushed rock in lieu of)

Anyway, I just smiled and didn't say a word...

That's so great! I was inspired by "Born to Run" too, such a great book.

I think its funny the only running injury I've ever had was when my old running shoes started literally hurting my feet. They had lost so much support and spring that they were working my top of the foot muscles and my calves (the same muscles I'm carefully working now with bare feet!)

I hope someone notices me that way someday. Great story!

hootyhalla-Yes, someone will notice. Not a matter of "if" but "when." :-)

Hey all-Just got thinking it would be nice keep this thread going about "Seeing Progress." I would love to hear about your "bf" progress, set-backs, goals etc...

Don't know about you, but the #1 motivation when I started running in the first place that kept me going was just that-Making progress. I don't know how many times people have told me the same thing after finding out I run marathons is, " Oh, I could never do that!" And I just think to myself, yes you can you just don't know it yet...

As I am pretty much starting over, it would be a help for me (and hopefully for you) that by sharing collectively our progress, would be a great motivator..

Today was my first 3 mile bf run. When I took off for my first un-shod run about 6-7 weeks ago, was barely able to do a 1/2 mile...

Hi, I just started bf walking 1 week ago and gonna take it really slowly. I have flat feet and my arch tires real easily and I hope to be able to rebuild my arch through this training. I was wondering if you could tell me if your foot's shape has changed after this practice (and how did it change)?

nmedpm- As of yet I haven't noticed any change in my foots shape. Read somewhere that someone having flat feet wearing a size 13 when he began running bf, regained his arches and went down to a size 10?? Don't remember if it said how long it took for the change, but I'll guess it took awhile...

The only changes I've seen is how fast my pads are growing stronger and how black the bottom of my feet are..

Hello all-Don't know about any of you (and that may explain why the lack of posts on this forum?) but I had to reset my password (7) times before I could get signed on... One day the password was fine and the next it wouldn't work. I sent an e-mail to admin a few days ago and haven't gotten a response. Anyone else having difficulties signing on?

Last week I decided to up my (every other day) runs from three to 4 miles. My first attempt went ok other than the bottom of my feet feeling like they were real close to developing blisters had I have gone just even a little further. My next 4 miler, two days after the first time I ran that distance, my feet felt better...

On one hand it seems the adaptation phase to running barefoot is a slow process that can not be rushed, but on the other hand, you don't have to wait very long to realize even a small amount of progress...

I hope to run a half marathon barefoot in Jan 2011, but I am going to hold off registering until November and evaluate then if this is even doable...
